چکیده

In order to compare the effects of different acoustic transmission conditions on Mandarin consonants perception, two subjective speech intelligibility tests were separately carried out in reverberant and noisy condition. The results showed that the affricates and fricatives were the most intelligible in reverberation. Friction might be the most important cue for consonant perception in reverberation. Those consonants articulated frictionally were more intelligible than others in low frequency noise, while the voiced were more intelligible in high frequency noise. The primate cues for consonant perception in noise were related to the frequency characteristic of noise. For both stops and affricates, the unaspirated sounds were more intelligible than the aspirated sounds in both reverberant and noisy conditions.

Investigation on acoustic behavior of acoustic porous absorbers to ‎absorb sound energy and transmission loss index

In this study, the acoustic properties of porous absorbents with different porosity levels have been evaluated using different mathematical models. These models use one or more parameters of materials for calculating acoustic characteristics. In all of these models, materials are considered as equivalent fluid and reactionary characteristics have not been taken into account.

Acoustic and perceptual characteristic of Italian stop consonants

We report in this paper the results of a study carried out to analyse the acoustic and perceptual characteristics of Italian stop consonants. The aim of this study is twofold: give an acoustical description of Italian stops and investigate which are the perceptual cues relative to their place of articulation. From the acoustic point of view we report: the measurements relative to the length of ...

The Influence of Language Experience on the Categorical Perception of Vowels: Evidence from Mandarin and Korean

Previous research on categorical perception of speech sounds has demonstrated a strong influence of language experience on the categorical perception of consonants and lexical tones. In order to explore the influence of language experience on vowel perception, the present study investigated the perceptual performance for Mandarin and Korean listeners along a vowel continuum, which spanned three...

The effect of bilateral subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) on the acoustic and prosodic features in patients with Parkinson’s disease: A study protocol for the first trial on Iranian patients

Background: The effect of subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) on the voice features in Parkinson’s disease (PD) is controversial. No study has evaluated the voice features of PD underwent STN-DBS by the acoustic, perceptual, and patient-based assessments comprehensively. Furthermore, there is no study to investigate prosodic features before and after DBS in PD. The curren...

Effects of language experience and expectations on attention to consonants and tones in English and Mandarin Chinese.

Both long-term native language experience and immediate linguistic expectations can affect listeners' use of acoustic information when making a phonetic decision. In this study, a Garner selective attention task was used to investigate differences in attention to consonants and tones by American English-speaking listeners (N = 20) and Mandarin Chinese-speaking listeners hearing speech in either...
